Richard Arnold

Richard Arnold heads the commercial team at Really Welsh, looking after the existing business as well as developing new products. Richard joined Really Welsh in the Autumn of 2006 just before the first leeks and cauliflowers hit the shelves, but Richard’s involvement with the growing in Wales goes back a little further.

Richard’s maternal grandfather farmed brassica and other vegetable crops in North Cardiff in the 1930’s before selling up and moving to Chepstow as the then town of Cardiff expanded North.

Richard’s own agricultural career started in the Vale of Glamorgan, working for the Keen family on their fruit farm, Hendrewennol, in the mid 1980’s before a stint at agricultural college in Kent, which in turn led to a varieties of roles with some of the country's leading produce growers and importers all over the UK, before settling in Worcestershire in 2000.

In 2006 Richard and wife Jeni, moved their family back from Worcester in to Mid Wales where they purchased a tiny small-holding just outside Builth which they now share with ducks, chickens, rabbits, dogs, cats a pony and donkey as well as their four children.

Asked how life in Mid Wales compares with his upbringing in Cardiff, Richard reports that its “totally different, and very relaxed. Builth is actually well connected for the various locations that Really Welsh are operating from across Wales, and stops me becoming too Cardiff focused… and then of course for one week in July each year, the rest of Wales comes to us!”

Richard's interesting fact: Richard's first media appearance was in the Western Mail in 1988 when he accidently fell into Michael Jackson's dressing room when he was playing a concert at the Cardiff Arms Park. Unfortunately (or maybe not) the King of Pop was not there to greet Richard.
