Charlie

Born and bred in North Wales, Charlie has also spent a lot of time globetrotting (or working hard as he would say) around the world. So what made Charlie decide to move back to the land of his fathers (or mam rather, as she still lives close by)?

Well leeks of course and lots of them too! Charlie came to help Andy in North Wales, where we grow our leeks as we here in Wales were wanting more and more of our national emblem.

Charlie has also worked really hard on increasing the amount of time that leeks can be grown in Wales, we wish we could grow them 52 weeks of the year, but we like them to grow out in the open without any help from heat coverings (which just adds cost anyway and nobody wants that).

Like the daffodils (although they’re definitely not as pretty), leeks are cut by hand and we cut around 40 tonnes a week between the end of July and May (not sure exactly how many leeks that is, but it would probably make your eyes water!!)

So finally we have both leeks and Charlie back home in Wales where they belong.

Charlie’s interesting fact: The house that Charlie lives in in North Wales was built by himself
