Really Welsh Daffodils are blooming Marvellous!
As the Really Welsh daffodil season draws to an end, we can look back on another successful year for Welsh grown daffodils. This week is the last week Really Welsh daffodils will hit stores and the final few lucky customers who placed orders on our website will be receiving the last daffodils of the season.
The year started off slowly with the severe cold temperatures experienced across the country, seriously hampering the growth of our daffodils. As you can see from our photos below taken mid-January, progress was initially slow compared to previous years like 2008 when we were able to supply daffodils to stores in the first week of January. As the first few fields began to progress, we sent our team of hardy pickers out in to the field to pick the first of the years daffodils, and despite the scare stories in the press we were on schedule for supplying Welsh daffodils for St David's Day.
Since then there has been no looking back and come rain or shine the team of pickers have been hard at work picking flowers to send to stores across Wales and for the first time this year, even into England. After our foray into stores in England we received a huge positive response from English customers saying how nice it was to see Welsh daffodils in places as far and wide as Taunton and Norwich, and asking how they can get their hands on Really Welsh daffodil bulbs in the Autumn. True to form, the response from Welsh customers has been overwhelming. Feedback came in from all corners of the country and we were pleased to be able to supply a variety of stores from you local SPAR store to the bigger Tesco stores. This year we also experienced our biggest ever Mothers Day week, not only in stores but with website orders flooding in to send flowers to hard-working Mums across the UK.
So as we look back on another successful season, we'd like to take the opportunity to say Thank You to all those who have purchased Really Welsh daffodils this year and in previous years as we strive to continue to bring you quality local Welsh-grown produce, and don't forget to look out for our Really Welsh Daffodil bulbs in the Autumn as now the team barely have time for a breather before getting ready to harvest millions of Welsh Daffodil bulbs to brighten up Spring 2011.
