Carwen has a bone to pick with Bruiser
Despite being the tail end of June, and the heart of the Cricket season, Sunday saw the Cardiff Blues Family Fun Day at the famous Arms Park ground in central Cardiff.
Carwen our leek was on the guest list, along with thousands of families from across the region, all enjoying a warm welcome (on a rather windy day) from ground staff & Blues players alike.
Delighted though he was to meet Gareth Thomas & co, Carwen had really gone along for the big mascot race – having been a little under the weather for the Match 1st Derby, coming almost last. Revenge was in the air.
If you’ve met our leek – you’ll know he’s not small, and on Sunday he’d got his Green Flash running shoes on, and had done a full warm up posing with children & players before the off.
Carwen got off to a cracking start, led for much of the way while giant pandas and lanky builders fell by the way-side, however Bruiser, the Blues mascot was out for bother, and despite losing his paws, seemed to make a last ditch attempt to send our leek off course just before the line…
Those of us at the tape called for a re-run, but a couple of the dragons were breathing fire & smoke, and the now headless Severnside man, could run no more.
So Bruiser was declared the winner, Carwen in the silver medal spot… Fear not… the leek will run on, and at their next meeting Carwen is sure to go one better, and become top dog.
